Salt Lake City-Utah
Salt Lake City talks through the magnificent voice of the mountain. Once you are there, what you will need is just the right spot to allow your human spirit to connect with nature. Finisterre Architecture took place to develop a landscape in a private property that faces a panoramic view of the valley. The owner’s request was to transform his backyard into something else than a residual space. As an architecture firm with a trained eye, we´ve recognized the spot at first glance as a place into the mighty mountains as a challenge since we should deliver all the materials up there without delays. We knew something good was about to happen.
One month and a week was the window of time that we had to develop the project from scratch until it was completed, which includes the project design and the construction “We burn the candle at both ends”. Even with these tight deadlines, we can remark that we always enjoy our work.
The sense of wonder was so important at this place because it precedes the knowing of this project. A custom pergola was selected as the primary element for a reason, the project demands some shade to stay longer without being invasive. Then water features to incorporate the sound of nature were added to the sides. The intention was to guide users into the center of the space and remark on the unmeasurable beauty of the view where the mountains rise. Finally, we added a firepit. Fire as a central element in the design was not used just like another kind of secondary option. No, we put it in the only position that it deserves.
The wooden deck plus other elements such as gabion walls that contribute to a better experience were added and the result speaks for itself. The sense of wonder stayed with us because we had tremendous respect for the job site by choosing the proper materials transforming the lonely backyard into a space full of spark and protagonism.
